KiteBoard meets Paros once more.


From 10 to 16 of July Pounda beach at Paros will host the Kite Pro World Tour 2006.This event is created from KPWT along with Paros Kite Pro Center.

Last appearance of at Paros was in 2001 and this comeback give us all Greeks the opportunity to watch the top pro kiteboarders from close.
If any of you cant make it going to Pounda beach then you can watch the games from the tv channel of SuperSport.

The Paros Kiteboard World Cup is the third event of the 2006 season.
Launched in 1999:
The Kiteboard Pro World Tour is the professional world cup of Kiteboarding that promotes the sport and its
star riders on an international level. The series of 8 events crowns the men and women world champions, for
Senior and Junior divisions.

The city and area :
Situated about halfway between Athens and Santorini, the lovely Island of Paros is the third-largest of the
Cyclades. Located on the Aegean sea, Paros is a typical greece setting able to maintain tradition and charm.
With white houses along labyrinth like streets, an incredible amount of picturesque churches, chapels and
monasteries, the island has a large number of attractive villages. The biggest are Parikia and Naoussa on the
seaside, followed by Lefkes up on the mountain. Pounda Beach is located on the western part of Paros,
opposite to Antiparos and offers an excellent spot for watersports, especially for Kiteboarding.
The spot and the wind conditions :
Pounda provides perfect conditions for practicing kiteboarding. The well-known northern wind
« Meltemi » blows in average 80% of time during the summer months. Usually comes from North, North-West
hitting Pounda Beach side-shore to side on-shore. The water temperature is warm. The average speed is 12
to 35 knots.
Climat :
The average temperature during the summer is 25C° to 35C°. During summer there is just sunshine as there
is no rain saison during these month.
Accomodation facilities :
Hotel Holiday Sun, 4 stars (class A’)
The Holiday Sun is located on the sea at Pounda on the western side of the island of Paros facing towards the
beautiful island of Antiparos. Situated a mere 8km from Parikia and 5 km from the local airport it offers a
unique and relaxing holidays overlooking the Aegean sea.
This 4 star hotel built in Cycladic architectural style and settled directly along the coast is the first hotel in
Paros to have obtained the International Quality Certificate ISO 9001.
This Hotel is the closest to the event site about 300 meters.
Opening and closing ceremony will take place at Holiday Sun Hotel.

Hotel Pandrossos, 3 stars (class B’)
The Pandrossos hotel (B' cat) was built in 1987 and renovated in 1999. The hotel has a wonderful view to the
Aegean sea and the city of Parikia. Located only a 100m from the beach, the hotel is also very near to the
market, the port of Paros and to the taxi and bus stations.
It’s 46 rooms are air-conditioned and feature individual balcony, direct telephone access and music. In a
relaxing setting, the hotel offers a breakfast room, TV room, a bar, a fine restaurant and an outdoor swimming
pool next to the bar. Room service, 24H reception and a private parking are at your disposal.
This Hotel is 8km or 10 minute drive from the Event Site.

Race team :.
Ian Young (AUS) will be the race director, he has 7 years experience in kiteboarding and previously managed
various kiteboard competitions. Francois Tabutin (Fr) will be the Head Judge. He will manage the judging
team, composed of William Bogaards (Hol), Dani Jimenez (Sp), Alex Hargreaves (Brazil) as judges.
Disciplines :
This international event will be composed of various contests. The main discipline for the world championship
are as follows :
?? Freestyle: The winners will gain 1 000pts, taken into account in the world overall ranking.
?? Speed Crossing World Cup 06 : This race is based on speed from one point to another. The winners
will gain 1 000pts, taken into account in the world overall ranking.
?? Hang Time contest : The goal is to jump and stay high in the air as long as possible.
Format of the main freestyle event : (rule book on www.kiteboardpro.com)
The competition will be conducted in heats as follows :
1st round : heats of four competitors – One/ One if possible
2nd round : heats of four competitors – One / One if possible
quarter finals : heats of two competitors
semi finals : heats of two competitors
final : heat of two competitors
Winner and Loser brackets take 2 days to finish.

Total prize money for the Paros Kiteboard World Cup : 40 000USD.
Freestyle World Cup : man winner will get a 8 000USD reward and the woman winner 5 000USD
Speed crossing World Cup : man winner will get a 2 500USD reward and woman winner 1 000USD
Hang time : man winner will get a 500USD reward and woman winner 400USD.

KPWT 2005 world champions Thomas Cocquelet and Gisela Pulido will defend their title during this 2006
season. With their various 2005 victories (Kiteboard World Cup in Noumea, Jim Beam kiteboard World Cup in
Turkey, Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup in Morocco, etc...), they proved their wide range of talents and
regularity. Nonetheless, needless to say, they will have to face many other talentuous champions...
